1️⃣ Empathy is not optional—it’s instructional.
Teaching ELLs taught me that students don’t leave the world at the door. Especially right now—with families impacted by immigration fears—connection comes before content.

2️⃣ You don’t need more resources. You need better reuse.
I stopped planning from scratch. I learned how to recycle one resource and scaffold it up or down— and suddenly planning felt doable again.

3️⃣ Individualization doesn’t mean 25 lesson plans.
It means knowing which skill a student actually needs next—and teaching that, instead of everything at once.

4️⃣ Flexibility isn’t chaos—it’s strategy. ELL teaching taught me how to adjust pacing, grouping, and timing
without guilt… because language growth isn’t linear.

5️⃣ Less overwhelm = better teaching. When I simplified how I planned, I showed up calmer, more present, and more effective—for all my students.
